Jenny King joined the Center for Family & Community Engagement in May, 2007.  She received her BA in Family and Consumer Sciences in 1997 from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA. Jenny worked from 1997 – 2000 in the WA Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration, at a secured residential facility for incarcerated male adolescents.  From 2000-2006 she worked with children and their families in DSS as a Child Welfare Services Social Worker employing family centered practice as a main avenue for engaging and empowering families in decision making.

In 2004, Jenny was a member of a team in her DSS office which was in charge of implementing the Annie E. Casey Family to Family Program. She was primarily involved in facilitation of family centered meetings, as well as working on building community partnerships/resource families for children.  During this time, Jenny participated and completed Mediation Training with the Benton Franklin Dispute Resolution Center and was involved in supporting and working with families having conflict with the Children and Family Services agency to reach resolutions.

Special interests for Jenny include continued training and education toward the use of family centered practice within all systems to best empower and support families toward understanding and building on their strengths, utilizing their own resources and community resources to achieve their goals.  Jenny is currently working toward completing her Master’s of Social Work degree.
