SCHOOL-BASED CHILD AND FAMILY TEAMS
At North Carolina State University, the NC Family Centered-Meetings Project develops and delivers curricula in school-based child and family teams and is evaluating this new program. Funding support is from the North Carolina State Board of Education and North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Currently, the Project is working with four schools—in Alamance-Burlington, Southern Middle School; in Duplin County, Wallace Rose Hill High School; and in Scotland County, Shaw Elementary and Scotland Accelerated Academy. The Project supports the schools in developing and implementing child and family team programs that emphasize the inclusion of children, youth, and their families in planning; fit the local school and community context; and encourage the participation of community organizations and public agencies. The evaluation examines how to carry out CFTs in school settings and what are its outcomes in terms of preventing academic failure and out-of-home placement and addressing a range of special needs related to such matters as disabilities and homelessness.
