ANCHORS AWAY ! HOW TO NAVIGATE CHILD AND FAMILY TEAMS: THE ROLE OF THE FACILITATOR
This four-day learning event is an intensive skills building opportunity for those who will be facilitating child and family teams as part of the MRS initiative. Participants will learn how to effectively facilitate child and family teams by first understanding how this role is different than traditional social worker roles and conducting their own self-assessment of their inherent facilitation skills. Strategies will be presented for partnering with the case-carrying social worker, creating an environment of physical and emotional safety, encouraging effective communication amongst meeting participants, managing conflict and denial, and working with children at the meetings. We will explore the various features of child and family teams and how to use these features according to the family’s culture and situation. The highlight of the training is a “mock” meeting in which participants will be able to experience the process themselves. This is a fun, engaging, and provocative skills-building experience, and full attendance for all four days is required. Participants will leave this training with a personal action plan that will include opportunities for ongoing learning.
